How do I declare a major in Criminal Justice

Complete Foundations of Criminal Justice (CJUS 1511) with a grade of C or better in a maximum of two attempts. Also, you must maintain a minimum of 2.0 GPA.

Once both of these requirements are met, you can fill out the Criminal Justice Major Declaration Form.

What are the requirements to complete the Criminal Justice major

Core Requirements (16 hours): CJUS 1511, CJUS 1200, CJUS 2340, CJUS 2370, and a statistics course (STAT 1220, 1221, or 1222).

Crime Analytics: One approved CJUS Crime Analytics course.

Engagement Across Perspectives: One approved elective course focusing on diverse perspectives.

CJUS Electives: 21 credit hours of major electives of your choosing.

Note: students must have at least 60 earned hours to take 3000/4000 level electives.

Are there limits on course attempts

Yes, to ensure academic success students may attempt CJUS 1511 and 2340 no more than two (2) times, including all withdrawals and grade replacements of D or F. 

Does the department offer internships for credit

Yes! The department hosts a robust internship program that is offered every spring, summer and fall semester.  You must first attend an online internship information meeting before enrolling in the program. Those dates will be posted on the website and declared majors will get emails from the internship coordinator with the meeting dates and times.
