Information for Pre-Majors

Declarations for new Pre-majors: Students can begin submitting declaration applications as soon as grades are posted on transcripts. Check your transcript regularly to see when the major appears. Students will not receive any type of notifications, therefore it is the student’s responsibility to monitor their status!

~ If you are a PRE-CJ MAJOR you will make an advising appointment with the College of Humanities & Earth and Social Sciences Advising Office (Fretwell 235).

Process to declare the Pre-CJ major:

Students wishing to declare Pre-CJ must have at least a 2.0 GPA.

~ If you have a 2.0 or better GPA, you can send an email to cjusadvisor@charlotte.edu from your UNC Charlotte EMAIL to request the Pre-CJ major. In this email, you must include your full name, student ID number, and the following statement: “I would like to add Pre-Criminal Justice as a major.” The subject line must read: PRE-CJ DECLARATION. If you do not use this subject line, your submission may be missed.

* If you are currently listed as UCOL, you must include the statement to drop UCOL and replace with Pre-Criminal Justice. If you want us to drop your current major, include that statement as well. (For example, “I would like to add Pre-Criminal Justice as a major and drop my current major of ______________.”) Do not include this statement if you intend to double major.

~ We will process change of majors on a rolling basis. Check your transcript regularly to see when the change has been made. Students will not receive any type of notification when the change is made, therefore it is the student’s responsibility to monitor their status!

Requirements to Complete the Pre-Major and for Admission into the Criminal Justice Major:

  • Minimum GPA: 2.0
  • Pre-Major/Prerequisite Courses: Completion of the below courses with a grade of C or above in each course. Students are allowed no more than two attempts at all core classes required to be admitted to the Criminal Justice Major (grades of D, F, and W all count as attempts). * Students with more than two attempts at any of the following courses cannot be admitted as Pre-CJ majors as they would not meet the qualifications for admission into the Criminal Justice Major.
